The Boeing Company Standardizes on PARTsolutions for 3D Part Catalog Management.

The Boeing Company’s use of product standards are evolving through their Product Standards as Digital Data (PSDD) initiative.

Boeing presented the progress of their strategy and the role that PARTsolutions plays in that complete solution at the 2009 PARTsolutions Industry Forum in Augsburg, Germany.

Excerpts from their presentation are shown below, with quotes from Boeing on why they need to change, what they need to do, and how they are going to achieve success.

Boeing Product Standards Review at 2009 Industry Forum (excerpts)

Why does Boeing need to change?

“The Boeing design environment has become increasingly more complex and dynamic with multiple CAD and PDM systems.   Multiple company mergers has resulted in a proliferation of same or duplicate product standards.” -Boeing

“Potential for billions of Product Standards to flow through this lifecycle over decades of time and program lifecycles.” -Boeing

“This resource intensive effort worked in the beginning but is not sustainable today.” –Boeing
“Product Standards define an estimated 40% of the Boeing product definition. Part Standards are one classification of Product Standards and provide the specifications for nearly 4.5 billion standard parts. “ -Boeing

Boeing’s vision includes  the goal to “Reduce Part Standards by 50% over next 10 – 20 years” -Boeing

“The company still has multiple CAD and PDM systems which Product Standards need to support.” -Boeing

What is the Boeing Strategy?

“Retire existing processes and tools supporting creation of standard part geometry and replace with a single-source authoring” -Boeing

“PARTsolutions tools support Single Source Neutral CAD Authoring.”

How will Boeing implement PARTsolutions?

What key PARTsolutions technologies will Boeing deploy?

Global design teams need a single master, but different CAD formats.

“Multiple CAD-native format geometry models delivered real-time” -Boeing

“Geometry Service – Request: This is the part, the CAD format, and PDM target.  Output: Geometry model delivered…  real-time.” -Boeing

“The Tools - Geometric Search and Compare” “any ERP system, any PDM system” -Boeing
